Pit bulls are a type of dog breed that has derived all the way down from what is known as the Molosser family. The puppies are known and recognized for their broad cheeks, powerful and large jaws, and square heads overall. Aside from that most pit bulls also are very stocky, agile, and possess quite a bit of muscle all over their bodies. This may be one of the reasons why so many people have chosen to use them as guard dogs. Unfortunately that has often given the breed a bad name even though they are rarely ever aggressive in nature or only turn dangerous after poor treatment by their owners or after being continuously edged on.

Both children and adults alike are known to love pit bulls thanks to their loyal nature, the bundles of energy that they have and their overall obedience and gentleness to the ones they love and small children. When trained properly pit bulls are very caring and gentle, but they are protective and will do whatever it takes to protect their owner and territory from any threats. That means that if you don’t train them from the early stages, they can often think that they are the boss of the house and walk all over you.

While the size of pit bulls can differ greatly from one to another, having a nice amount of open space both in and outdoors is a definite benefit for your new pet or pets. They love to run around and have seemingly endless energy and they need a good amount of exercise in order to let it all out and stay healthy. If they are confined in a small area they can become depressed and may lose their overall vigor for life.

It can be quite beneficial to buy a pit bull from a breeder rather than a normal pet store, as they often will come pre-trained and you can be sure that they were well taken care of beforehand. It is not uncommon for store bought dogs to be less willing to learn than those that come from a caring breeder, and that can be especially true when it come to pit bulls. Just make sure that you do your research first, be committed to training your dog early on, and you are sure to have a loyal, loving, and fun pet to call your own for years to come.

There is simply no denying that pit bull puppies are incredibly adorable, and that is often why they seem to always be in demand and why there are so many people ready and willing to adopt pit bulls at any given time. With their incredibly cute round faces, fun and exciting personalities, and wide range of colors and sizes practically anyone can find just the pit bull that they want at any time of year.

Whether you are looking to buy a black, white, gray, beige, silver, or even merle pit bull you should be informed about the breed and compare all the available places where you may be able to find one of your own before making any decision. It is a smart decision to buy a pit bull when it is in the puppy stage as you then have the opportunity to train it properly and watch as it grows up and matures along with you. This also gives the pit bull a much better chance to feel comfortable and understand that the home is theirs and that they have a loving atmosphere to grow up in. When that happens, the pit bull will almost surely become more loyal and be better behaved as it matures over the course of the first few years.

Pit bulls are known for having very unique personality traits, and while they are sometimes known for being aggressive proper training early on can help subdue that and any other negative traits that are often thought to be present. While proper training may take a lot of effort, and take up a good chunk of time, consistent training is the best way to ensure that your pit bull is friendly, well behaved, affectionate, and a valued and appreciated member of the family. In other words, the time that you put in will be well worth it in the long run.
Buying a pit bull at a license and reliable kennel is a very smart move for a variety of reasons. That way you know that the pit bull was brought into a caring atmosphere, was treated properly medically, and was given proper food and nutrition before you were able to adopt it. Those first few weeks can go a long way in determining the overall temperament of your pit bull puppy and make all the difference in how enjoyable and happy they are when they are older.

The media coverage on pit bulls is incredibly unfair. It’s pushed lawmakers to pass statutes that unjustly target the breed and their owners. Specific ordinances banning the breed from being owned outright due to unsubstantiated claims about the breed’s violent tendencies have been enacted due to situations that are largely misunderstood. In reality, pit bulls are as gentle a breed of dog as they come. The breed is particularly caring, affection, and extremely intelligent. The breed has a particularly good memory, and perhaps its only fault is that it can tend to become a bit protective of his owner, but this is very easy to manage and control.

Pit bulls making for great companions to bring to pet friendly shopping areas. They’re not a nuisance to bring around public places while they shed, because their hairs and coats are such that their shedding isn’t at all noticeable. They’re not a particularly slobbery dog, so no need to worry about getting your pup’s drool all over a designer boutique’s nice carpet. And they’re very easy to train, due to their keen intelligence, which makes them good dogs to bring in public areas: they won’t be going to the bathroom in just any old area. If properly trained, they’ll go where they’re supposed to.

Pit bulls make for better companions than the typical tiny trophy dog breed, such as the Chihuahua. Pit bulls are calm little dogs that will not overreact when you’re not able to give it as much attention as you’d like. Though the dogs do require you to give it its love, he won’t throw a fit if you’re not able to every so often. They’re understanding dogs, and highly sociable.

It’s this sociability that women are finding the dog great about the breed. The dog can be brought anywhere pets are allowed. Where you’re seeing more and more pit bulls are at pet friendly workplaces, such as software companies in the Silicon Valley. These pet friendly workplaces are helping to turn the reputation problem of the pit bull around. At these work places, where dogs of all sorts are present in healthy numbers, pit bulls are given the chance to demonstrate that they actually don’t try to start a fight with every dog they come across. But where pit bulls are really doing a good job in turning their reputation around are at the more delicate pet friendly establishments, such as cafes. Here, pit bulls are seen in their calm demeanor.

The media has the unjust knack for perpetuating absolutely false stereotypes of all sorts, about races, about geographies or communities… The media’s definitely not gotten it right about pit bulls. What’s popularly known about pit bulls is that they’re extremely wild, out of control, violent beasts of rage. What’s purported by the media is that pit bulls can’t even be within eyesight of another dog, because a violent thrashing will ensue if ever within even the foggiest proximate distance to another dog.

This all couldn’t be the farthest from the truth. In reality, pit bulls are dogs that are extremely caring. It’s this feature, perhaps, that’s gotten the breed grossly misunderstood. Perhaps, once upon a time, an over protective pit bull protected his owner from harm by aggressively getting in the way. And so began the reputation. However the breed won this reputation; it’s entirely unwarranted. The breed isn’t out of control; it isn’t prone to violent outbursts; it isn’t a particularly difficult breed to tame; it doesn’t lock jaws onto unsuspecting people or other animals. Pit bulls don’t even make very good guard dogs! – let alone aggressors.

Due to their relatively petite sizes, in fact, women are finding the breed the perfect type of companion. Far meatier and a better dog to cuddle with than a Chihuahua, the pit bull makes for a great companion not only because of its manageable size and stature, but also for its very even temperament and highly compatible sociability. In reality, the breed will reflect the sort of values and customs that his master espouses. Ultimately, if the dog’s master doesn’t like people very much, then the dog won’t know how to act around people. But if you’re a people person, if you like being out and active on sunny days, then a pit bull will gladly join you.

Pit bulls are also very intelligent, which makes them very good dogs to train. They’re highly trainable when it comes to house training, which is especially attractive if you live in a condo building where potty discipline is critical for the dog to get down. In a condo building, you also have a lot of people and other dogs, which is good for pit bulls, as they’re highly sociable animals. This sociability is particularly attractive to owners that plan on taking their dogs to crowded parks on a regular basis, or even to pet friendly department stores and shops.

Pit bulls get a bad rap, for sure. The media tends to sensationalize attacks that occur, creating a reputation about the breed that is largely unwarranted and unjustified. In reality, these dogs are very friendly. Ultimately, dogs that attack people are trained or socialized to attack, and are often a reflection of the sort of environment that the dog was raised in. As is the case with any person, a dog’s upbringing has a lot to do with it. Sadly, if a dog’s upbringing is poor and traumatic, the psychological damage isn’t easy to undo. It’s possible, but it isn’t easy.

Baggage aside, however, pit bulls, or pet bulls as some affectionate owners tend to call them, are as loving as the next breed. The breed’s tendencies trend toward the extremely loyal and caring. Perhaps this is how this violent reputation might have developed. Pit bulls may grow to become protective of their masters. Again, if you’re good with dogs, and you can get a good understanding for the animal’s psychology, you’ll be able to sense this protectiveness growing within the animal, and you can easily take steps to not incite this into an over protectiveness, which can lead to antisocial behavior.

Contrary to popular belief, these dogs aren’t prone to wild violent outbursts. They don’t lock jaws onto people, and they don’t even make good guard dogs. What they do make are very good companions. They make great running partners. They make great cuddle partners. And they’re really good to keep around if you have a lot of people over to the house. If you’re social, your pit will be. Your pit will do as you do. They’re extremely loyal and sensitive animals. They really good to their masters, and if you’re lucky enough to get adopt one at a young enough age, you could raise the pup to espouse the same social tastes that you have.

Take the pit to picnics, to friends’ homes that also have dogs, and your pit will be just fine. He’ll likely get along well with other dogs. Pits are great because they’re one of the most trainable breeds there is. They’re relatively low maintenance, physically and psychologically. Keep their coats clean and you won’t have a hard time when they shed. Keep them stimulated and they won’t ask for very much more than your attention. And perhaps that’s their drawback. Like any other young person, they require a lot of attention.
